First graders got to spend a HALF hour with each of the first grade teachers doing some fun half way activities!
It was tough to say who had more fun this day- first graders or the teachers!
We also had our Bedtime Story Hour event this week. This is by far one of my most favorite things about teaching first grade!
I was out of the classroom a couple times this week for some professional development opportunities. Teachers have to keep learning, too! Since I was gone, I didn't get to snap too many pictures. Here is a quick overview of what we learned:
Math Workshop
We learned to compare two digit numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to.
Reader's Workshop
We read a story this week called Amazing Grace.
In this story, Grace wants the lead role of Peter Pan in her school play. The kids in her class tell her she can't because she is a girl. With encouragement from her grandmother, Grace proves to everyone that you can do anything you set your mind to. At the end of the week we compared and contrasted Grace to Oliver (from Oliver Button is a Sissy). We also talked about the important lessons we learned in each of these stories!
Word Work
We added 5 new words to our word wall:
After
Away
Came
Little
Just
We also continued learning about the long and short sounds of E!
We had fun practing this week with a new center!
